About YourLens
Your taste should travel with you.
The services we use learn a great deal about what we love. That understanding usually stays trapped inside each platform. YourLens is building a different model.
The idea
YourLens gives you a personal intelligence layer built from your preferences, helps you understand what fits you and why, and lets you put it between you and the world.
It starts with what you tell us about the stories you love and the viewing history you already own. From there, we build a Lens you can carry — useful when choosing what to watch today and, over time, wherever a better understanding of what you like and don’t like can lead to better decisions.
What it does today
YourLens currently begins in two ways. You can have a short conversation about what you love, or import the viewing activity Netflix makes available to you. From there, YourLens creates a Story Lens you can use to evaluate movies you’re considering, understand why something may or may not fit, and refine the Lens with your reactions.
You remain part of the process. If an inference is wrong, you can correct it. If we miss the mark, let us know. That response will make the next one better.
Why it was built
YourLens was created by Rich Morrissey, a technology operator who has spent much of his career building data-driven systems around emerging technology. Years in advertising technology also gave him a close view of how effectively platforms can learn about people — and how rarely people get to see, shape, or carry that understanding elsewhere.
YourLens grew from a simple question: what if some of that intelligence worked for the individual instead?
YourLens is in alpha. We’re putting it in people’s hands early because that is the only useful test.
Where it is going
Movies are the starting point, not the boundary. Future versions can incorporate more sources, identify patterns across different kinds of taste, and let people decide where and how to use their Lens. The principle stays the same: your information should work for you, under your control.
